Healthworx Accelerator: Past, Present, and Future

Healthworx Accelerator – formerly known as 1501 Health – is changing the healthcare landscape as we know it through our mentorship, education, and investment in the most promising startups across the country. With a renewed focus on advancing bold, innovative healthcare solutions, the program relaunched last year with a standout inaugural cohort – marking its evolution into Healthworx Accelerator.

Healthworx Accelerator is cultivating an ecosystem of innovators to inundate the healthcare industry with new models that deliver accessible, affordable, effective, high-quality solutions and care for all. The goal is two-fold: improve healthcare outcomes, and do so by increasing and fostering commercial relationships between promising startups and large strategic stakeholders. Given the breadth and depth of our network, Healthworx Accelerator is uniquely positioned to do just that.

Understanding and mastering the nuances of healthcare takes time and resources that often prevent a new business from gaining traction. Healthworx Accelerator has worked with dozens of startups to overcome this barrier, sharing elusive industry knowledge and insights that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.

The result? Graduates of each cohort making a stand in the industry with new tools, pilot programs, validated concepts, and clear direction, promising better healthcare for all.

A key differentiator of this program – Healthworx Accelerator offers a second stage of support following the initial three-month crash course curriculum. Each partner will select at least one cohort company with whom they will closely collaborate and mentor through the remainder of the year. While selection is not a guarantee, this structure has been instrumental in many of our alumni company’s success, and we’re proud to offer this as an accelerated path to validating, fine-tuning, and launching a model or solution into the healthcare space.

As we gear up for the 2025 Cohort, we’re catching up with a few program alumni to hear firsthand about their experience as a part of Healthworx Accelerator, and what they’re up to now.

Verbal is an AI-powered compliance platform delivering 100% visibility into human + AI-driven patient interactions. They automate monitoring and provide actionable insights to reduce costs, minimize harm, and improve accreditation success. CEO and co-founder, Waleed Mohsen was paired with one of the Healthworx Accelerator partners to get more personalized mentorship as part of this program.

“Stage 2 [of Healthworx Accelerator] has been transformative for our business. Having direct access to decision-makers at leading healthcare organizations has accelerated our product-market fit significantly – we've been able to test our assumptions with actual end users and refine our solution based on their immediate feedback.

The measurable impact has been clear: we've identified three critical feature gaps we wouldn't have discovered otherwise, and we're already in discussions about pilot opportunities with two of our advisor institutions.

What's been most valuable is how our advisor relationships have evolved from formal check-ins to genuine partnerships. They're invested in our success and have opened doors to stakeholders we couldn't have reached on our own. This kind of customer access typically takes startups years to build – having it in months is a game-changer.”

Meanwhile, Healthworx Accelerator Alumni, Delfina, on a mission to transform maternal health outcomes with AI-powered care, has secured their Series A round of fundraising, propelling their ability to create a safer, healthier future for expecting parents and their babies.

The $17 million raised in Delfina’s Series A round will propel the company into its next chapter of growth and innovation. This funding will accelerate Defina’s ability to serve more patients nationwide while enhancing its industry-leading predictive technology and interventional support. With a concerted focus on improving maternal health outcomes for all, including in underserved communities, Delfina will serve as a leading technology partner for payors, providers, and families nationwide.

The 2025-26 Healthworx Accelerator will kick off with the application window opening later this summer. Stay tuned as we share more success stories and exciting updates in our quest to make healthcare better for all – one startup at a time.
