Transforming Healthcare with CloseKnit™ Virtual Care

Throughout the pandemic, healthcare delivery has seen countless changes. To adhere to social distancing guidelines, many people found themselves connecting with their doctors via video-chat or over the phone rather than visiting an office in-person. The use of technology to further telehealth has been essential to making sure individuals continue to receive the necessary care during a public health crisis.

With technology as a key driver of the future of healthcare, CareFirst, Inc., CareFirst of Maryland, Inc., Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc., collectively CareFirst, welcomed CloseKnit, a new advanced primary care practice designed around people and their healthcare needs.

40% of CareFirst members don’t have a primary care doctor. Whether these individuals haven’t found a physician they connect with, or they can’t make the operating hours of a clinic, CloseKnit helps to fill these gaps. Not only does the practice have an expanded provider network, but it is also open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

CloseKnit features a virtual-first delivery model, where a patient can connect with a physician via their smartphone or device. Through an easy-to-use app, patients can seek preventive and urgent care, behavioral and mental health, care coordination, insurance navigation and more. By adopting a virtual-first, technology enabled method of care delivery, CloseKnit removes barriers to care and increases the accessibility of primary-care.

CloseKnit is available for all commercial CareFirst members with costs paid through a member’s insurance benefits. The platform anticipates growth into other markets in the future.

Perhaps the best people to describe the practice are those who created it and lead it every day. Read more about CloseKnit in articles featuring CloseKnit CEO, Mary Jane Favazza, and Healthworx Director of Commercialization, Mike Batista here:
